Spokes vs. Stangs: Rolling Wheelchair expo game to benefit Germantown Education Foundation

On Saturday, October 10th, Houston High varsity basketball teammates, school administrators, faculty, and GPD school resource officers will play against the Rolling Grizzlies in a game of wheelchair basketball. The aim of the event is to raise money for the GEF and the Rolling Grizzlies. Money awarded to the GEF through ticket sales will be applied to grants.

Wheelchair basketball has been around for nearly 70 years, but it's a competitive and fast-paced sport that many are unfamiliar with. Here in the Mid-South, you can cheer on the Rollin' Grizzlies as the team gears up for another benefit tournament.

Rehabilitation Hospital supports the Rollin’ Grizzlies

Staff from Regional One Health Rehabilitation Hospital have formed a special bond with the coach and members of the Memphis Rollin’ Grizzlies, Memphis’ wheelchair basketball team. The team is always looking for new players and staff members at the hospital are always looking for ways to encourage patients.  Taking patients to watch the Memphis Rollin’ Grizzlies practice allows them to see individuals who are thriving and very active in their wheelchairs.

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -The Memphis Rollin' Grizzlies won all three games at its latest tournament in Memphis this weekend.

The wheelchair basketball team stomped the Jackson, TN Generals, 49 to 24, and beat Jackson, MS, 74 to 33. They wrapped up the tournament with a win against the Arkansas Rollin Razorbacks, 44 to 40.

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -The team at WMC Action News 5 is sending a High 5 the Memphis Rollin' Grizzlies.

The team went three and one in a Jackson, Tenn. tournament. It was the first tournament of the season for the Mid-South wheelchair basketball team.

Man who lost legs continues to recover, playing wheelchair basketball

(WMC) - It has been more than a year since a Memphis father of two lost his legs and started his courageous recovery. 

Michael Owen's life was changed in an instant when he was changing a tire on the side of Winchester Road in March 2013. He called a friend to watch out for him while he changed the tire, but a passing car slammed into his friends truck, pinning his legs between the bumper and the ground.
